Lituânia

Independente entre as duas Guerras Mundiais, a Lituânia foi anexada pela URSS em 1940. Em 11 de março de 1990, a Lituânia se tornou a primeira das repúblicas soviéticas a declarar a sua independência, mas Moscou não reconheceu essa proclamação até setembro de 1991. Posteriormente, o País reestruturou sua economia para integração em instituições ocidentais, como a OTAN e a União Europeia, em 2004.

Terrain: lowland, many scattered small lakes. Fertile central plains are separated by hilly uplands that are ancient glacial deposits.

Highest point: Juozapines / Kalnas 292  m.

Climate: transitional, between maritime and continental; wet, moderate winters and summers.

Ports and harbors: Butinge, Kaunas, Klaipeda.
